I never really thought about the Weight Watchers "8 healthy guidelines" too much when I started the program. I mean it made sense to get your servings of milk, fruits &veggies, healthy fats, and water in. I didn't really think about how it would affect me or how it aids in weight loss too much. But, I now know why they are so important. I really need to go grocery shopping, I am totally out of stuff for my salad, so I didn't get my servings of veggies in. I also really skimped on my milk. I REALLY feel the difference. I don't have as much energy, and I don't feel as good. I also didn't make the best choices today either. I guess when you aren't filling up on healthy, low points foods, you have your run of not-so-healthy foods. So, I will have to do better tomorrow. Now, I'm a believer.

The day just doesn't seem right...
On my workout days, I like to wake up, feed the baby, eat breakfast, and then get into my workout clothes and spend the next hour or so concentrating on my workout. It's the second or third thing I like to do in the morning. It just seems like my whole day is so much better planned when I get a chance to workout first thing in the morning. Of course that isn't how my day went this AM. I didn't get a chance to workout until mid-afternoon, and it just isn't the same. My stamina seems worse, and I don't get the same endorphin release. I am sure that it's all in my mind, but my day just doesn't seem right.

Bravo to me!
I have gotten in a groove with bringing my breakfast and lunch to work as well as my snacks. It's now become routine. I've gotten more comfortable with saying no to food that we have in the office. Even if I want it, I just don't get it because I am afraid that I will slip back into a feeding frenzy and reverse all the good progress that I have accomplished. I don't feel guilty anymore that people buy me cookies and chocolate and I refuse them. I just politely thank them and say that I don't want it. People resisted at first because I used to be always up for some goodies. Now, most people won't even ask me. BUT, there are still those few that just keep on trying. It's kinda funny! I'm just glad I am not having problems saying no anymore.

It's weird for people to notice...
People are really noticing my weight loss. It feels a little weird. I don't want to be complimented. It makes me feel a bit self-conscious. I am NO WHERE near where I want to be, so I am still quite disappointed with my body. I really don't see how I will ever be satisfied. But, I may be a little more comfortable in my skin when I get smaller. I think I actually felt more comfortable being "invisible". I don't think I've ever admitted that to myself before.

Kickin' butt and taking names!
I am so happy today! I did my workout this morning, and I feel like I have come upon a HUGE milestone.
I am doing the "couch to 5k" running program and I am in my last week. I ran for 30 minutes today! 2 months ago, I was really struggling trying to run 1 minute! Now, I am running 30 minutes. I get into this zone about 10 minutes into it that just keeps me going. It's great. I now know what people are talking about. I can't wait to go outside to run. For the first time, I think I will be ready for the 5k I want to do in May! Also, my heart rate has come down a lot since the I first started. When I would run, my heart rate would be almost 200. I thought I was going to die. Now, I am looking at 170's. I know that's still really high, but I'm getting there! I LOVE THIS!

M&M's are NOT my friend...
UGGGH, I don't understand why it's so hard to go to work. There's nothing but tempting food all around. I was thankful that my legs were sore because I was reminded of all the working out I did this past weekend. There was no way that I was going to destroy that. LOL I must admit though that it was hardest when my co-w0rker and friend, brought out a bag of plain m&m's. That was really hard. I can honestly say that I have not been as tempted as I was in that moment since I started WW. I soooo wanted some m&m's. One can't hurt, can it?
Then I started thinking about all the hard work I have put in. I didn't want to destroy that by eating some tiny little chocolate candies. I mean, I am sure just a couple wouldn't hurt, but I don't think I would've been able to stop at a couple. I just decided to get my yogurt instead.
I felt pretty proud of myself for getting through that temptation. It was hard, but worth it. And it's going to be more worth it when I reach my goal. Hopefully, it will get easier as time goes on too. It WILL get easier, right?

Am I selfish?
I asked myself that question a million times today when I was working out. I like to work out in the morning while everyone is still sleeping, but this morning I woke up with a migraine, so I took some motrin and went back to sleep. So, I was a couple hours off schedule when I finally did get up. I had to go to the grocery store and then get dinner started since I was putting it in the crockpot.
When I finally did get to work out, it was 5:30 pm. I smuggled myself down to the basement, and started my work out. I could hear my son screaming for me. He wanted me to come and get him, but I can't because he messes with the treadmill, and I don't want him to get hurt. My husband is upstairs with him, so he's being taken care of, but he just wants to be down there with me cuz he knows that he's not allowed right now. So, I just kept wondering if it's selfish of me to take this time for myself so that I can workout. As a mother it's so hard for me to put my needs first, especially to do so without guilt. What am I missing during that hour? It may not sound like a lot of time, but over the days, weeks, months, and years, it really does add up. I think that is going to be the hardest thing for me to deal with during this journey. It's hard to accept that it's OK to put myself first for a bit. I am getting healthy for my kids, so ultimately this will benefit them...I hope.

I guess everyone has them.
OK, so it wasn't a great day today. For some reason, I was in a REALLY "snacky" mood. I just couldn't stop snacking. It wasn't because I wasn't fueled enough. I ate great at meal time, it's just that I wanted things that weren't exactly clean. Oh well. At least my snacks weren't terrible. I think that looking at what my snacks were it's because I have really been craving salt lately. I don't think I am replenishing enough salt during my workouts. I will work on that. I guess everyone has those kind of days once in a while.
I had WI this AM and I thought that I would have a gain, but I didn't. I am down 0.6 which is good considering I had such a big loss last week. So, that breaks down to like 3.4 lbs in a 2 week period, which is a better rate of losing. Hopefully, my snacking doesn't mess that up.

Who are you..who-who, who-who?
I'm off today, but I had a ton of housework to do. I also had a ton of errands, but I didn't do them because I didn't want to take the baby out in the rain. I found myself going over what someone said to me at work yesterday more than once. It must have affected me more than I thought.
One of my co-workers complimented me yesterday, and said that I have obviously lost more weight and that I was looking good. She then said that she could just see the confidence that I have in the way that I am carrying myself around the office. I didn't know how to take that. Was it a compliment? Was she trying to secretly be mean or sarcastic? I just didn't know. I mean, I don't feel any different. Is she really trying to say that she thinks I'm cocky? And why do I care what she thinks?
I thought about that alot during my workout today. It's funny how things affect you when you don't even realize it.
Well, I digress. I had a GREAT workout today. I couldn't run on my last run day, so I was really looking forward to getting back into it. I was afraid that I would still be in pain, but it was ok. I did a 28 minute run, 2.2 miles, and I feel so accomplished. This is my second to last week of the couch to 5k program. I can't even believe how far I've come. About 2 months ago, I had trouble running for 90 seconds at a time, and now I did 28 minutes! It's amazing. I finished up with abs/core, and I love it. It makes me feel so centered.

It's infectious...
The most amazing thing happened this morning. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off, as usual. It's 5 am, and I am trying to get myself ready for work, get things for my son ready, make lunches, etc. and my husband said something to me that made me just stop in my tracks.
He looked at me and said, "ya know, maybe I'll start going back to the gym". I couldn't believe it. He's been donating money to his gym for the past year. But, since I've been working out so diligently the last 2 months, I think he's wanting to jump on the bandwagon. I think it's great. He said that he wanted to get in shape to keep up with me. WITH ME! It made me feel proud that he was acknowledging my accomplishments and that he thinks that I am making positive change. It kept me going all day today. I just love that man. :) Then, he proceeds to comment on how short my skirt is! LOL.
So, I guess this health stuff is infectious. People see you doing positive things and they want to be a part of it. I really hope that he does go back to the gym. Maybe we'll eventually start working out together. It'd be a good way to spend some quality time together.

Not falling for it...
I am declaring it now. I refuse to let anyone hinder my efforts in this journey. People can tell me that "one doughnut won't hurt" and that I "look fine the way I am now", but I am not going to let them in my head. I am not trying to lose weight for anyone other than myself. I want to be healthy, plain and simple. I want to get control over my eating and make changes that I will continue for the rest of my life. I will decide what is ok for me to eat and when I look fine. Me, and no one else.
Ok, I've just been having a bit of rough time at work. I think that instead of people embracing my choices, they are really trying to derail them. I haven't tried to force my new lifestyle on anyone, but I will let people know that I won't be doing the unhealthy things I had been doing before. I know that people are resistant to change, but it's sad that some would rather sabotage than try to understand.

Day off...
Tuesdays are usually my day off, but that's relative. Between working out, trying to clean the house. taking care of a 4 month old, and running errands, it feels more like work. I made it my priority to workout though. I took a nasty spill on the ice on Sunday, and I didn't feel that I got hurt or anything, but I was wrong. When I tried to do my run, I was in a LOT of pain. I only got into about five minutes of my run before I knew that I had to just stop. I am training for a 5k in 2 months and I just can't afford to get hurt right now. Instead I just decided to do some walking on the treadmill with increasing inclines. I am glad that I did that.
I love how I have started listening to myself. It's such a change for me, but I really feel in-tune with my body and what it's trying to tell me. I guess it's just an example of all the positive changes I have to look forward to thanks to my new healthy lifestyle!

So much temptation...
Work was absolutely unbelievable. First, a patient brought in bagels and muffins. (did I mention that carbs are my absolute WEAKNESS) I was able to resist that. Then, we had a lunch that consisted of fatty lasagna, and chicken parm. Plus, there was a plate FULL of brownies, blondies, and cookies. It was so tempting. I completely resisted it all. I just got my lunch and went into my office to eat. It was hard, but it's definitely getting easier. It's a lot easier to resist on days that I work out though. However, I don't work out on days that I work. Today though, I just kept feeling the abs/core workout I had done yesterday when I would laugh or use my abs, so I just kept reminding myself that I didn't want to destroy the hard work I put in yesterday. A few months ago, I would have just succumbed.

Back on track...
Ok, now it's time to get back on track. Last week was a nightmare as far as my eating is concerned. I feel so much better when I'm eating enough, and I'm eating the right things.
I worked out this morning. I did a 25 minute run yesterday, so it was difficult for me to do another one this morning, but I did do 22 minutes. I don't think that's too bad considering that it was my first time running back-to-back. I also did abs and core, and that's something that I really need to work on. After 2 kids, I have a hard time believing that it will ever get tight again.

L-salad, 2 wasa rye crackers, deli sliced ham, 1 wedge laughing cow cheese
S-23 almonds, milk
D-chili roasted pork tenderloin, 1/4 cup rice, steamed zucchini and summer squash
S-100 cal mini bag popcorn

Cheat meal?
I woke up feeling refreshed this morning. It feel really nice.
I had weigh in today. I lost 2.8 lbs. I am not happy about that because I know it's due to not eating well all week. On the bright side, I made my 10% goal with Weight Watchers today. That was exciting. It's the first big goal that I've gotten to. It's only been 9 weeks, so that's great. I am going to try to slow down the weight loss though. I am definitely going to eat all my points.
My parents wanted to keep the kids overnight, it's the first time I left the baby. DH and I need the break though. We haven't had a night alone since the baby was born. I pump while I'm at work, so I have plenty of breast milk for her to drink, so I wasn't worried about that.
We went out to one of my favorite restaurants. It's one of those Japanese steak houses where they cook in front of you. It was fun. I got as low-fat a meal as I could, but still I am sure was VERY fattening. I haven't gone OP since I started, so I allowing myself this ONE cheat meal. My trainer talks about this. She does this once a week. BUT, she's been in maintenance for a while, and she's in control of her eating now. I am still really in the learning process, so I won't allow this to happen often at all. I think I will try to be strictly OP until we go on vacation in May.
I did workout today. I did my training run (2 miles) and legs. BOY did I think I would be sore, but it's not too bad. Maybe my body's getting used to working out? I feel a lot more refreshed on the days that I work out. I wish that I had time to workout everyday, but I hope to get there eventually.
B- (prior to workout) oatmeal, 1 cup of milk
S- (after workout) 1/2 cup egg beaters, 1 slice Canadian bacon, 1 orange
L -1 cup black beans, 1/2 cup brown rice, small salad with oo and vinegar
S-1 plum
D-salad, teriyaki shrimp (about 5 oz), stir fried vegetables, 1/2 cup fried rice
Water 120 oz
Activity c25k week 7 session1, legs (7 AP's)
Points target 32
Points used 34 (32 daily points and 2 AP's)

Finally Friday!
I don't think I have been so glad to see the end of the week in a loooong time! It's an awful day today. It's sleeting and snowing, so it took me close to 3 hours just to get home. Another hectic day. I am so glad that I don't have to do the hospital for another month. I am going back to my regular schedule, and I couldn't be more pleased about that.
I just couldn't work out tonight. By the time I got home, I was physically, but more importantly MENTALLY exhausted. I just didn't have the energy to put into a work out. I tried, but I wasn't using good form, so I stopped before I got injured. The race is coming up, so I don't want to risk that. I'll just have to make it up tomorrow.
I don't know why I thought today would be different. I did terribly with eating again. I had 9 points left over. I did get to eat all my lunch today, but not enough food overall.
Food, more of the same...

Is it Friday yet?
Please tell me the week is over...No, ok. This week is just dragging on. I have been doing awful with my points, but there just aren't enough hours in the day for me to work in the hospital AND eat. I have to see the patients, so eating has taken a back seat this week. I know it's bad, but I just can't help it. I will do better over the weekend. I am sure that I have lost some muscle this week, since I haven't eaten enough, so, I HAVE to do better.
I am not even going to post a log because it looks EXACTLY like yesterday. Still had a ton of points left over.
I did get all my water in though. That's never been a problem.

I'm not even hungry...
Today was a rough day. I had no time to myself. I didn't get a chance to eat like I normally do. My points suffered for it too. I was too tired to be able to eat all of my points at night, so I had a lot left. I hate that. I'll try to do better tomorrow.
I worked out this morning though. I started my second week of my training program. I know it's only been a week, but it was easier than last week. I know I'll be sore tomorrow, but I wasn't as sore today. It's amazing how good working out makes you feel. I feel ready to take on the world afterward. Why did I let myself go so long without doing it?

Gotta start somewhere...
I didn't know exactly how to begin with my food diary, but I figure you've gotta start somewhere. This will probably be a work in progress and may change as time goes on.
Monday, the beginning of the work week. I always dread it, but this week is even worse. I usually work on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, but this week is different. I work all week. I usually do that every 4-5 weeks. It always takes a lot out of me, and this is the first time I am doing since going back to work from maternity leave. I think it would be more doable if my 4 month old was sleeping a little better, but I know that won't last forever. Ate pretty well today, it wasn't too hectic at work, which is nice.
Breakfast
1 cup skim milk, 1 cup kashi go lean crunch
Snack
1 large orange(s), 1 kashi tlc granola bar-peanut butter
Lunch
1 wedge Light Creamy Swiss Original Flavor,2 slice Hearty Rye Crispbread Crackers
1 serving Hillshire Farm Deli Select Ham
salad with 1 tsp oo and 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Snack
dannon light-n- fit yogurt, 1/2 cup fiber one cereal, 1 cup of grapes
Dinner
1 cup canned spinach,2/3 cup mashed potatoes, 1 Mini Meatloaf

Snack
23 almonds, 1 cup skim milk

The Introduction
I have never had a blog before, and I have never been great with journaling, so this should be a very interesting experience for me. Well, here it goes...
My name is Rho, and I am 31 years old. I the proud mother of a 3 year old son and a 4 month old daughter. I am happily married to my best friend and most wonderful guy on earth and have been for 6 years. I am currently trying to shed the pounds that I have gained since I started grad school ten years ago. I was extremely active in high school and college, and when I got to grad school that all slowed down, but my eating didn't. Then I got married and I really enjoyed making meals for my new husband. I also enjoyed eating them...alot. Needless to say, 10 years, and 2 kids later, I find myself about 60 pounds overweight, and I am ready to make a change.
I have started Weight Watchers and started working with a trainer. I feel better than I have in a long time. I have started working out, and I love it. I am even training for a 5k run in May! I never thought I would be doing that.
This is going to be a life-long change and learning experience for me. I know that I MUST do this, for myself, and for my kids. I am hoping that this process is going to help me learn more about myself and identify areas that I need to work on the most with my eating.
Thanks for coming along with me.
