Same gain, different outlook...

I had a my first gain with Weight Watchers about 5 weeks ago. I didn't let it stress me too much because I knew that I was doing all the right things, I had just run a 5k in 90 degree heat, so I was retaining quite a bit of water.

Well, I had my second gain this week, and I have quite a different take on things. I know that I was not doing the right thing. I did have a bad day eating wise when I went to the amusement park, but that wouldn't have showed on the scale if I hadn't been neglecting my workouts. I have already suffered in my lack of losing inches over the past month, and now, the scale has followed.

Working out is as much apart of my weight loss journey as eating right. I don't think I really thought that until the last couple of weeks. I knew that it was important, but I saw tons of women at my meetings who aren't working out, and they are losing just fine. Well, they aren't me. I HAVE to have that activity. It's not an option. So, from now on, it won't be.

Supermom..

It's a bird, it's a plane, no wait...it's a psycho...no, it's supermom.

I have really fallen off the wagon here lately. I have neglected my workouts, I haven't been journaling, and I have lost a lot of willpower when it comes to some food choices (yesterday's post, case in point). I have been really trying to do some introspection as I try to pick myself up and really get my head back into the game. The one thing that I have noticed as I have been slowly reverting back to "not-so-healthy" ways, is that I am slipping into what I call the "supermom phenomenon".

I often feel like I am not doing my job if I am not doing everything myself. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids, carpool, work--I have to do it all. It's like if I ask for help, I've failed. I haven't done my job. I feel like there have been plenty of moms who do it and can do it well, so why can't I?

Well, I don't know the answer to that question, but I do that I can't do it all. Some thing's got to give. And lately, it's been my workouts. I notice that I don't have the energy that I once had, and I just don't feel as good, as confident in my body. I have to start working out again. (I say this after ANOTHER day where I didn't workout).

So, I made myself a promise that this month, I will ask for help with something EVERYDAY! It doesn't have to be anything big, it could be something as small as asking my DH to change the lint tray in the dryer, but it's the asking part that's important. If I am going to make this work, I am going to have to realize that I will need some help. And there's nothing wrong with that. After all, I am no Superwoman! :)

Best Laid Plans...

It's Independence Day! This year instead of the usual barb-b-q, we decided to take the kids to a children-friendly amusement park in PA, called Dutch Wonderland. I hadn't been there since I was a kid myself, and I thought that it would be fun for my 3 year old to have a run at all the games and rides that he wanted.

So, I decided to be proactive. I looked on the website of the park to see if they had any info on what kind of food they had at the park. It was a pleasant surprise when I found that they had "healthy fare" choices there. I looked at all my options and even mapped out what restaurant I would have my lunch. I packed myself some snacks, ate a nice healthy breakfast, and headed out to the park.

When it was time for lunch, we all went to the place that I had already scoped out. I picked out my salad, but was deeply disturbed to find that although they had salads and fruit and the like, they didn't have any low cal options for salad dressing. I didn't even have to have low fat. I just needed at least low cal. Not an option. So, I decided to try the salad dry. I just couldn't do it. So, I decided to get one small packet and use the dressing sparingly. That was ok. Then, there were absolutely NO protein choices that were even somewhat appetizing for me.

Well, I had my lunch, but the lack of protein and grains left me starving, and without good choices. So, I ended up doing horribly at the park. I had a funnel cake. It ended up making me totally sick, so I spent the rest of the time in the park regretting my choice. I also couldn't eat any dinner because my stomach was just torn up.

I learned my lesson though. The next time I will just pack a cooler and eat my lunch in our car and return to the park. I didn't get a chance to get any AP's in, so I just have to suck up all those points. *sigh* Tomorrow it's back to Core!

The head still not caught up...

The tags are saying size small, and size 6. The people are saying, "you're so skinny". But my heart, my mind are saying that it's all a ruse. I'm still really fat. I just everyone else fooled. It's weird. I just cant' see what everyone sees. I wonder if that will change. I wonder if after working my butt off, will I like what I see? Will I still feel like the fat girl fooling everyone?

The thing that scares me the most is that I still feel like a fat girl, how am I supposed to stop thinking like one? It's that thinking that got me in trouble in the first place. The thinking leads to doing, and I can't revert back to those habits again. I think that this week, I am going to concentrating on trying to see myself for where I am now. I know that I'm not done with my health and fitness transformation, but I've come really far. I want to be proud of that. I want to be able to see that for myself.

I think that getting my head caught up to my body is going to be the only way that I can move forward from this point on. I am refusing to go backward!

The Scale is only one small part of the picture...

Well, it's been a while. The last month has been quite chaotic for me. I've had a job change, so has my DH, and I still have two small children who are wonderful but keep me very busy. Needless to say, I haven't truly been giving my 100% to the Phit-n-Phat lifestyle. My workouts have truly suffered.

I haven't been that worried about it though..until today. The scale has still been moving nicely. As a matter of fact, I am less than 10 lbs away from my Weight Watcher's goal, so I feel that overall I have been very successful. However, I got the shock of my life when I participated in "measurement day" with Corinne. Each month, we take our measurements to get an idea the inches we've burned off with our rigorous workout. In the 3-4 months prior, I have burned 28 inches, which is amazing. I couldn't have asked for better than that. Well, today I learned that I burned 1.5 inches...1.5. That's it. And while any loss of inches is great, I was horrified about the way the numbers dropped off. It's because I haven't been working out and strength training the way that I should have been.

WOW, this is just the kick in the pants that I needed. The proof is in the pudding. I don't have a ton of weight to lose, but I have a ton of inches that I want to lose, so as my trainer said, it's more important than ever for me to hit the weights hard to achieve the body that I want. And now, I have never been more convinced. So, this is me, declaring that I am recommitting myself. No more playing around. This has got to be a priority. And from now on, it will be.
